This is the sad reality at California’s Mendes Calf Ranch. Calves live in crates so small they can’t even turn around or lie down naturally.

Such cramped conditions are a violation of state animal cruelty laws, which is why the Animal Legal Defense Fund has filed a lawsuit against Mendes Calf Ranch.

But there is something you can do to Free Baby Mendes.

Land O’Lakes and Challenge Dairy are two of the dairy producers who use milk from calves confined at Mendes. It’s time to let them know that this practice is unnecessary — and unacceptable.

As a consumer concerned about the well-being of animals, I want you to know about an unacceptable practice associated with your products. Some of your suppliers use Mendes Calf Ranch to house the calves of milking cows.

The babies are taken soon after birth and shipped away to live by themselves for extended periods in cramped, filthy crates — often without enough room to turn around or lie down naturally. Then they are usually shipped back to the dairy farms for a life of non-stop milk production, just like their mothers.

The confinement of calves at Mendes is in violation of California’s animal cruelty laws, as detailed in the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s current lawsuit against the calf ranch, and it is not a practice befitting your company.

As a leader in your industry, please stand up and urge Mendes Calf Ranch to end this cruel and unlawful confinement immediately.
